WHERE THERE’S HOPE . . .

-

Dippy the diplodocus Was proud of his address — The National History Museum And the grand entrance hall, no less! He had been there thrilling visitors For such a long, long time, In fact his resident’s permit read 1979. He hovered there quite happily With people walking under, Until an interloper Came to steal his thunder. Hope was an enormous big blue whale — It came there in a crate But Dippy didn’t think much of it, Thought it rather overweight. It needed to be displayed somewhere As the biggest creature on Earth, So took pride of place in the entrance hall As it needed a good wide berth. Still Dippy was having none of it, He wanted that big whale down But although he called on his squatter’s rights He lost out to The Crown. Not wanting to outstay his welcome Or become a bit of a bore, He joined those other old fossils and went With the Rolling Stones on tour! Sheila Webb, Chesham, Bucks. ...andLimerick His accent as chimney sweep Bert Was not on the nose, that’s a cert. But what are you like? Chin up, Dick Van Dyke, Live it down, chum, we ain’t really hurt. Neil Vermaut, Croydon.
