Plastic fantastic

CAN I defend plastic, which has served us faithfully for 100 years?

I helped develop polyvinylchloride (pVC), polyethylene ( pE) and poly- vinyl ethyl ether ( the sticky stuff on sticky-backed plastic).

pVC and pE are the main insulators on electric cables, so when we switch on anything, thank plastic. Don’t forget polystyrene, polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon), poly - urethane and my favourite, polyputthekettleon.
