House move
THE Houses of Parliament need multi- million- pound repairs — and a few more million will be needed to rehouse the politicians while the work is in progress.
Should we not be asking whether Parliament still needs to be in London?
Why not use this as an opportunity to build a new parliament building in a more central part of the country, such as Sheffield? It could be financed by selling the existing building to developers to be turned into a hotel and highend flats.
Such a suggestion might well cause the conservation brigade to foam at the mouth, but it could be of great longterm benefit to the country.
