THE Houses of Parliament need multi- million- pound repairs — and a few more million will be needed to rehouse the politician­s while the work is in progress.

Should we not be asking whether Parliament still needs to be in London?

Why not use this as an opportunit­y to build a new parliament building in a more central part of the country, such as Sheffield? It could be financed by selling the existing building to developers to be turned into a hotel and highend flats.

Such a suggestion might well cause the conservati­on brigade to foam at the mouth, but it could be of great longterm benefit to the country.
