Holidaymakers flock to Greece

RENEWED demand for holidays to Greece and Turkey narrowed losses at Thomas Cook.

The company saw an ‘improved’ performance of 11pc across the group as bookings to Greece in the three months to the end of June were up 22pc, while Bulgaria and Cyprus increased 19pc and 14pc respectively.

Sales rose 14pc to £2.3bn while losses narrowed to £31m from £64m in the same period the year before. Its gross profit increased 11pc to £468m.

Peter Fankhauser, chief executive, said: ‘The pick-up in demand for Turkey we reported earlier in the year has continued, as customers are attracted to the quality and value on offer. Our holiday offering is in great shape.’
