Holidaymak­ers flock to Greece

RENEWED demand for holidays to Greece and Turkey narrowed losses at Thomas Cook.

The company saw an ‘improved’ performanc­e of 11pc across the group as bookings to Greece in the three months to the end of June were up 22pc, while Bulgaria and Cyprus increased 19pc and 14pc respective­ly.

Sales rose 14pc to £2.3bn while losses narrowed to £31m from £64m in the same period the year before. Its gross profit increased 11pc to £468m.

Peter Fankhauser, chief executive, said: ‘The pick-up in demand for Turkey we reported earlier in the year has continued, as customers are attracted to the quality and value on offer. Our holiday offering is in great shape.’
