TOBY GIVES THEM BOTH BARRELS

Roland-Jones takes 4-39 on debut after Big Ben smashes 112

-

Toby Roland- Jones said he had fulfilled a childhood dream after bowling england into a dominant position on his Test debut against south africa.

Following a brilliant 112 from ben stokes that helped england to 353, the tourists finished day two of the third Test on 126 for eight after Roland- Jones’s burst of four for 15 in 24 balls ripped out their top order.

‘It was a pretty special feeling,’ said the Middlesex seamer, the first man with a double-barrelled surname to play Test cricket for england since 1935, who ended with four for 39.

‘This is the moment every kid dreams about — of representing your country, and I’m no different. I felt in a nice rhythm and things just seemed to catch fire.

‘The wicket of Hashim amla was probably the best of the bunch, with all he’s done in the game. It seemed to get a bit of extra bounce, and it’s always nice to see the back of him.’

Meanwhile, south african seamer Vernon Philander was on a drip in hospital last night after suffering from a virus that limited him to five overs on the second day.

It will not be known until this morning whether or not he will be fit to bat as his side seek the 28 more runs they need to avoid the follow-on.
