Secret to long life? Porridge at 7am ... and 10pm

-

THE world’s oldest family say that eating porridge is the secret to their record-breaking longevity.

Thirteen surviving siblings of the Donnelly family, raised on a farm in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, have lived a total of 1,073 years – with their ages ranging from 72 to 93.

Joe Donnelly, the youngster of the clan, said: ‘We’ve always followed Daddy’s habit of that nice warm bite before sleep. Porridge at around 10pm, then again for breakfast at 7am. Cooked oats, milk, a spot of apple jam on top.’

The family, who have lost three siblings, set a new Guinness World Record for longevity this year. Porridge has been shown to lower blood pressure, diabetes risk, cholesterol and protect against heart disease.

Joe added: ‘Our diet has never been from processed or polluted foods.’
