HEINO KUHN ................. 3

THAT first-innings dismissal was very odd, jumping round with his back leg in the air, and he will be worried about his place going to Old Trafford.

DEAN ELGAR .............. 8.5

LOOKs an ugly player but a real fighter and grinder of runs as he showed by toughing it out yesterday to hold England up with a century.

HASHIM AMLA ............. 5

GOT a good nut first time from Toby Roland- Jones, bouncing and leaving him, but went into his shell a bit early in the second innings.

QUINTON de KOCK........ 6

GETs a six for his keeping, because he was brilliant on a ground where the ball wobbled a bit, but a couple of cheap dismissals.

FAF du PLESSIS ............ 3

NOT helped by Vernon Philander’s illness and the struggles of Chris Morris, but surprised he did not insist on a two-day game after Trent Bridge.

TEMBA BAVUMA ......... 8

GOOD solid player and a fighter. Plays well against England, who could bowl wider at him and get him driving more. May move up to open in place of Kuhn.

CHRIS MORRIS ............. 3

ORDINARY with the ball. Could not control the Duke, which is one reason why south Africa should have organised an extra county game.

KESHAV MAHARAJ .......

7 DU PLESSIS under-bowled him on sunday just because he had been taken apart by Ben stokes in the first innings.

KAGISO RABADA.......... 6

STARTED to find more rhythm as the Test went on and another one who should have played an extra two-day game before this match. Nice set-up of Keaton Jennings and Dawid Malan.

MORNE MORKEL .......... 9

PEOPLE will ask why his bowling figures were so high but the spell he bowled to Alastair Cook on saturday was brilliant. One of the great spells at The Oval. On another day could have got 10 wickets in the match.

VERNON PHILANDER .... 7

WHEN on the field he was exceptional. Dangerous when he tries to seam it with a wobble seam, although not as good when he tries to swing it.
