Rowling’s fake news

-

JK ROWLING’S grudging apology for spreading a fake news story on the internet about Donald Trump snubbing a disabled three-year-old boy is a cautionary tale.

Social media is awash with defamatory stories and an intelligent and powerful figure such as Miss Rowling (who ironically hates much of the print media) should be ashamed of herself for resorting, in her hatred of President Trump, to such bilious bunkum.

Unlike the internet, the Press which Miss Rowling so disdains has to maintain a strict code of conduct, of which accuracy is the first requirement. If newspapers publish untrue stories, they are answerable to the full force of the law. THE Mail has no problem with schools teaching 11-year-olds about the virtues of breastfeeding, but could we make one suggestion? Could the children please be taught to read and write properly first?
