FROM THE DAILY MAIL ARCHIVE AUGUST 2, 1940 THe Germans have carried out their first leaflet raid on Britain. The leaflets, headed Last Appeal To Reason by Adolf Hitler, were dropped on a town in the South-east and another in the South-West. The raid lasted an hour and wardens and police were busy afterwards collecting the leaflets. AUGUST 2, 1963 The BBC is virtually ending lunchtime television for women, because the 500,000 to 1 million audiences are not big enough. The ‘same sort’ of women’s programmes will go out in the evening from the autumn. Women’s editor Miss Doreen Stephens said: ‘It will be much more satisfying because both husband and wife will see them.’ HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOnnA AIR, 38.
