Praise for paramedics
I AM surprised reader Neil Blatchford complained he had to wait half an
hour for attention to his gashed leg after ringing 999 (Letters).
When I tripped and cut my head on broken concrete, 999 was called and an ambulance arrived after an hour and 20 minutes.
I have no argument with this because the blood flow had been stemmed and the accident was not lifethreatening, so it was given low priority. I was treated in hospital and sent home within an hour.
I have nothing but praise for the paramedics who work 12hour shifts under enormous pressure. BRIAN F. MITCHELL,
Melbourn, Cambs. CALLING an ambulance for a gashed leg is why real emergencies have to wait longer. Making your own way to A&E or the GP is the appropriate action in such cases, not ringing 999.
