Test samples to be carried on Eurostar

- MATT LAWTON

USAIN BOLT’S urine will be travelling by Eurostar during the London World Athletics Championships. On a day when the boss of UK Anti-Doping said she was ‘disappointed’ that the national agency will not be involved in protecting the integrity of the event, it emerged that all the samples taken from Bolt and his fellow athletes will be taken to a WADA accredited laboratory in Ghent by high-speed train. As Sportsmail revealed in February, UKAD lost out to a German company for a contract believed to be worth close to £1million but Nicole Sapstead, the chief executive of UKAD, argued that the travelling distances involved in the transportation of samples was ‘an unnecessary risk’. She added: ‘We were disappointed not to have been awarded the contract and we believe our proposal represented good value for money. It is important to remember that we are not a commercial company but a public entity, an arm’s length body of Government.’
