FORMER New York mayor Michael Bloomberg bought a seven-bedroom grade IIlisted mansion in Chelsea for £16million in 2015.

Once home to the writer George Eliot, the building reportedly boasts a baroque ceiling mural of Venus by James Thornhill, who painted the interior of the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral.

The businessman, pictured, who is worth £32.8billion, has invested millions in a Norman-Foster designed European headquarters for his financial news and data business in London. His firm, Bloomberg LP, employs 4,000 people in the UK.

In 2014, Mr Bloomberg was made an honorary knight by the Queen in recognition of his £50.9million philanthropic contributions to the UK.

The 75-year-old is the sixth richest person in the United States and the ninth richest person in the world.
