Man robs bank... to go back to jail
AN ‘institutionalised’ career criminal robbed a bank with a steak knife so he could go back to jail.
Tommy Ray McAdoo, 77, was handed 15 years in prison by an American judge after hearing he was still a threat to public safety. When he was asked by FBI agents who arrested him what he did for a living, he replied: ‘I used to rob banks.’
Attorney Megan Rachow said: ‘He reported to parole and probation that he wants to return to prison. He cannot function in society.’
She added that McAdoo had an ‘absolutely extraordinary’ criminal history dating back to 1964, including assault with intent to commit murder.
The court heard he scribbled a demand for money on a piece of paper before making off with $2,700 (£2,040) cash in a paper bag from a bank in Reno, Nevada.
Lauren Gorman, defending, told the Reno courtroom: ‘He was just freezing and scared, and prison is a world he’s familiar with.’
