Hikers warned of 7ft-long snake on coastal clifftop

-

WALKERS have been confronted with a somewhat unexpected sight for Britain’s clifftops – a 7ft snake.

And while the reptile is harmless, officials at Pembrokeshire Coast National Park fear people could be so shocked at seeing it that they tumble off the edge.

The Louisiana Pine snake, pictured, is an escaped pet which is non-venomous and eats only small rodents.

But sections of the path in south-west Wales, where it has been seen, are above 100ft cliffs.

James Parkin, a director at the national park authority, said: ‘The snake could scare the living daylights out of someone. They could jump back and put themselves at risk given sections of the path are quite close to the cliff edge.’
