Charles’s gongs

-

AT THE Passchendaele ceremony, Prince Charles wore a large number of medals, while the King of the Belgians wore none.

Most of Charles’s medals seemed to be celebrating the Queen’s various anniversaries, and as none was for bravery, I see little point in their being on display.

C. NEWTON, Irthlingborough, Northants. PRINCE Charles was wearing the Coronation Medal 1953 — he must have been four when it was issued.

He was fortunate to be wearing a 1977 Silver Jubilee medal, as the vast majority of the Armed Forces serving at that time were ignored and received nothing.

Yet those serving at the time of the Golden and Diamond Jubilees were issued with a medal if they had completed five years of service.

How curious that Charles was wearing the New Zealand Armed Forces (Defence) 2012 medal. This was awarded to all who served in the New Zealand armed forces from September 6, 1945 onwards, and was approved by the Queen.

She also approved a similar medal for the Australian armed forces. However, the Government has turned down a request from our veterans for a similar medal. MICHAEL BEMBRIDGE,

Mold, Flintshire. COULD Prince Charles not find room for his Boy Scout badges, cycling proficiency sticker and Tufty Club badge? PAUL GILLIGAN, Doncaster, S. Yorks. PRINCE Charles was the only male dignitary not wearing a dark suit. He looked as though he were going on safari — not the correct attire for such a moving service.

DAVE READ, Malvern, Worcs. WHY was Prince Charles dressed as the man from Del Monte?

NICK CARTER, Lincoln, Lincs.
