Bomb plot foiled by check-in staff

-

A CHECK-IN clerk foiled a plot to bomb a plane by saying the bag in which it was concealed was too heavy to go in the cabin, it was reported last night.

The home-made device is believed to have been created out of a meat grinder, said the Sydney Morning Herald.

The plot to place it on an Etihad flight from the city to Abu Dhabi was ‘dangerously close to being carried out’ warned the newspaper.

Yesterday Australian Federal Police said two men aged 49 and 32 have been charged with two counts of planning a terrorist act.

In raids in Sydney last Saturday, officers found a meat grinder they believe could have been the one in the plot. It is not known if an associate took the bag once it was not allowed on board.
