LOST LOVE ‘I fell for my police guard ... then he was killed’

IN the tapes Diana talks about her love for her personal protection officer, Barry Mannakee, pictured with her left.

Mr Mannakee died in a motorcycle accident in 19 7 three weeks after being sacked by the Royal Family following rumours of their romance.

Describing him as the greatest friend she ever had, she says: ‘At 24, I fell deeply in love with someone who was part of all this, and that was all found out and he was chucked out and then he was killed.

‘And that was the deepest blow in my life, I must say. I don’t find it easy to discuss.’

She adds: ‘I was quite happy to give all of this up ... just to go and live with him.’

She says Charles ‘ thought he knew but never had any proof’, adding: ‘I should never have played with fire and I did and I got very burned.’ She denies anything sexual happened in the relationship.
