Google funds Prince’s secret sojourn in Sicily
PRINCE HARRY has attended a lavish ‘top secret’ summer camp run by internet search giant Google at one of Italy’s most exclusive resorts.
His presence last week was not on the Court Circular, the record of royal engagements, but saw him rubbing shoulders with the likes of Sir Elton John, Emma Watson and Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal.
The annual event is held at the £1,500-a-night Verdura Resort, set in a valley of olive groves close to Sciacca in Sicily, by Google billionaire co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
Each year they invite some of the world’s wealthiest business leaders and tech gurus, as well as a handful of superstars, to spend three days discussing everything from human rights to the internet. But while the mornings are given over to the discussions, guests can spend their afternoons and evenings indulging themselves with lavish lunches, dinners and entertainment.
On the last night, Google spends £70,000 renting the 2,500-year-old Valley of the Temples ruins for a spectacular concert and sit-down dinner. This year’s stars were Sir Elton and Lenny Kravitz.
The event, dubbed ‘Davos on the sea’, is held amid huge secrecy. Guests get a password-protected webpage showing their itinerary and are asked not to divulge it.
Kensington Palace has declined to comment on Harry’s presence.
