Father dies in cliff fall on night out celebrating cancer ‘all clear’

- Daily Mail Reporter

A FATHER fell to his death off a cliff after a night out with friends to celebrate receiving the all clear from cancer.

Adam Fenton, 31, endured months of chemotherapy to shrink his blood cell tumours and was told it had been successful three weeks before he died.

His body was discovered on the beach in Newquay, Cornwall, on July 29 after he failed to return from his first night out since receiving the good news.

The roofer was planning his wedding to fiancee Carly Blackman, 33, with the help of their daughters Macie, six, Maddison, five, and his stepdaughter Bayleigh, 13.

The family had enjoyed a long-awaited day out at the same spot two weeks earlier. Miss Blackman’s mother Rebecca Watson, 53, said Mr Fenton was ‘happier than ever and ‘had everything to live for’ since recov-

ering from B- cell lymphoma, which was diagnosed around nine months ago.

Police are investigating what happened to Mr Fenton. Friends say he disappeared from the pub where they had been drinking and they assumed he had gone home.

A woman in her 40s was left in a critical condition after a fall from the same cliffs at Towan beach last Tuesday. And debris recently crumbled from the cliffs on to families beneath.

Mrs Watson said: ‘He got diagnosed eight or nine months ago and it was one of the most aggressive forms of cancer and in his heart, lungs and lymph nodes.

‘He had six months of chemo and we thought we were going to lose him then.

‘The cancer brought us all closer together. We were celebrating. We thought he would never get through it but he responded to the treatment. It was unbelievable.’

After eight-and-a-half years together, Mr Fenton and Miss Blackman planned to tie the knot at a small ceremony later this year. Mrs Fenton added: ‘They were about to get married and now the songs they picked for their wedding will be played at the funeral.

‘Telling the youngest girls was heartbreak- ing. They’ve been going to and fro from hospital helping their daddy fight cancer and now this.’

Mrs Watson wants the authorities to make the cliff safer, and friends have started a fundraising campaign to support the family following Mr Fenton’s death.

A police spokesman said: ‘We are treating the death as unexplained.’
