1,000 jobs go at Sainsbury’s HQ

-

SAINSBURY’S is axing more than 1,000 jobs at its head office as part of a £500m cost-cutting drive.

The firm, which employs more than 3,000 staff outside its stores, has hired a team of top consultants from McKinsey to draw up a staff reduction plan – according to reports.

Sainsbury’s is based in Holborn, London but also has a separate HR centre in Manchester, an IT team in Walsgrave, Coventry and a banking division in Edinburgh.

Sources said the firm is focused on reductions within its HR, and learning and development teams.

The potential cuts come after Sainsbury’s announced it was slashing 400 jobs in March – with a further 4,000 staffers facing changes to their working hours as part of the shakeup.

A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: ‘We do not comment on speculation and would always make any announcement around jobs to our colleagues first.’
