WHAT WE LEARNED FROM WEMBLEY SHOWPIECE

- SAMI MOKBEL

1 GONE FOUR-EVER?

IS it curtains for Arsenal’s famous back four? Arsene Wenger looks certain to continue with the 3-4-2-1 system that served his team so well at the end of last season. Yesterday merely emphasised why he must persist with playing three at the back.

2 BIG GUNNERS MISSING

ARSENAL were without Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Laurent Koscielny and Aaron Ramsey yesterday. It bodes well that they coped without four of their most influential players. And Shkodran Mustafi was not included. All five are surely certain starters.

3 DANNY LOOKS WELL

DANNY WELBECK looks refreshed, recharged and ready to go. The forward’s career has been blighted by injury but he appears fully fit and produced a promising display at Wembley. England manager Gareth Southgate will be pleased.

1 SIGN OF TIMES

ANTONIO CONTE’S answers to questions about the club’s transfer policy were indicative of his dour mood. Youngsters Charly Musonda, Jeremie Boga and Kyle Scott were all on the bench at Wembley so they need bodies through the door. Quick.

2 TRUST WILLIAN!

WILLIAN can count himself unlucky to have been booked for diving in the first half. It looked as though the Brazilian threw himself to the floor under pressure from Hector Bellerin. But replays showed he was clipped before accidentally tripping himself.

3 WAIT FOR IT, ALVARO

RECORD signing Alvaro Morata was left on the bench as Michy Batshuayi started yesterday. No doubt Morata will be Conte’s first-choice striker but you wonder if the manager believes the Spaniard is quite ready to be unleashed on the Premier League.
