Watch out Strictly, Mollie’s looking for love

- By Laura Lambert TV and Radio Reporter

HER bandmate waltzed her way through to the Strictly final. So Mollie King has big dancing shoes to fill.

The 30-year-old member of girl band The Saturdays was revealed yesterday as the first confirmed celebrity for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing line-up.

She follows Saturdays star Frankie Bridge, who was runner-up three years ago with professional Kevin Clifton.

Miss King, who was once linked to Prince Harry, announced on Radio 1 that she would be a contestant in this autumn’s series. She had previously

turned down the show, when she was dating model David Gandy. But the couple split last year after five years and Miss King has openly spoken about being on the lookout for Mr Right.

Yesterday she told DJ Nick Grimshaw: ‘We have spoken to [Strictly] for a couple of years… when they asked this year, I was like, “Oh please can I do it?”. I’m very competitive, so watch out other contestants.’ Given the show’s track record for ending relationships, perhaps it is the other halves of the male professionals who will have to beware.

Asked if she is currently dating, she replied ‘No I’m not’ and laughed nervously when it was suggested that she might ‘get off with her dance partner’.

After she was announced as a contestant, many Strictly fans complained on social media that they had never heard of her and criticised the decision to pick another member of The Saturdays. The rest of the line-up will be announced over the next two weeks.
