MY FAMILY, PARTITION AND ME: INDIA 1947, 9PM, BBC1
IN 1947, 200 years of British rule over India came to an end, and the vast subcontinent was divided between the new Islamic Republic of Pakistan and an independent India. The process of partition was one of the most catastrophic events of the 20th century; more than a million died in the ensuing chaos and violence as millions fled their homes and families were ripped apart. In this poignant two-part series, Anita Rani (pictured) explores how partition dramatically changed the stories of four British families — one Muslim, one Hindu, one English colonial and Anita’s own.
