SO, WHERE WILL WE GET MEDALS?
BRITAIN were set a target of six medals by UK Sport but have so far collected just one, from Mo Farah’s brilliant run in the 10,000metres on the opening night. Sportsmail looks at the best of their remaining opportunities…
MO FARAH
THE only medal that can be termed probable, if not certain. Farah runs in the 5,000m heats today, with the final taking place on Saturday. He won the world title at the distance in 2011, 2013 and 2015, as well as two Olympic 5,000m golds. Needed treatment for a bruised knee after his 10,000m win, which could be a factor.
LAURA MUIR
SHE was ‘gutted’ to finish fourth in the 1500m on Monday and the question is whether she can recover sufficiently for the second half of her double attempt. The heats are tomorrow with the final on Sunday.
MEN’S 4x100m RELAY
BRITAIN have excellent strength in depth, with three of the squad — Chijindu Ujah, Adam Gemili and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake — having gone sub-10sec. Good medal potential.
WOMEN’S 4x100m RELAY
THE team won Olympic bronze in Rio but could well struggle this year with their fastest runner Dina Asher-Smith yet to find true form after foot injury.
ROBBIE GRABARZ
HE took high jump bronze in London 2012 and won European indoor silver earlier this year. Ranks ninth in the world so is in with a shout.
TOM BOSWORTH
PURSUING his first global medal in the 20km race walk on Sunday. Was impressive in finishing sixth at the Rio Olympics — the best performance by a British race walker since Paul Nihill finished sixth in the 20km at the 1972 Games. Bosworth set a world record for the mile in July. The 20km event is dominated by the Chinese.
