‘They’re married with kids and think they can buy us for a tenner’

- By Tom Witherow

Here are four of the traumatised young girls’ horrific stories:

GANG RAPED BY SEVEN MEN

ONE vulnerable 13- year- old in local authority care described how she was drugged and then gang-raped under a Kurdish flag.

She was picked up from her children’s home in a Mercedes and then driven to flats in the west of Newcastle to be used by anyone who wanted her.

During one attack she was high on cocaine while men took turns to have sex with her.

The girl was a frequent runaway and in a ‘wrecked’ state, the court heard, and the men took advantage.

Prosecutor John Elvidge, QC, said: ‘It was like a relay race, one man after another, each having sexual intercourse with her to which she did not consent.’

On one occasion the girl was taken to a party at a flat where there was a group of seven men in a room with a Kurdish flag on the wall.

She tried to resist the first man’s advances but she was given the drug mephedrone and, one-by-one, the gang took their turn with her.

When she left she was driven back to the children’s home and given £200 along with more drugs, the court heard.

A Serious Case Review has been launched into Newcastle City Council’s actions to determine what lessons can be learned and how to improve safeguarding

DRUGGED AND SHARED ROUND

ANOTHER victim, who is described as extremely vulnerable and unable to look after herself, has spoken in harrowing detail about how she was abused.

She was 19 when she was given cannabis and first raped by Abdul Minoyee, before being passed on to other men.

She said: ‘They just sit there and have a couple of drinks, have a couple of puffs of cannabis, get up and dance. bedroom‘And they by try grabbingand get us into aroundthe the belly – and when you say “no” they still try and drag you though to the bedroom.

‘Basically they think that, with them having a load of money, and they’re married and they’ve got kids and all of that, that they can go for younger, like our age, and have sex with them for like £40, or a tenner or something that that.

‘Ever since I’ve kept to myself. I haven’t told my dad, my family members. I couldn’t bring myself to tell anyone because I felt ashamed, embarrassed. ‘And people were going “Have you ever been raped?” Well I bloody well have. Now I’m telling you it’s proper horrible. I need somewhere to go to be safe.’

PICKED UP NEAR ASDA

A 15-year-old victim was raped in June 2011 after she was randomly spotted by Solful Islam when he was on his way home from work.

Islam, now 35, saw her drinking alone near the local Asda and asked her to wait there for him.

He drove home to tell his wife he was going out fishing with friends, before telling his friends he had to stay home because his son was sick.

He drove back and picked the girl up, buying her a bottle of Malibu. He took her to a ‘session’ address in west Newcastle, owned by another member of the gang, where he raped her.

‘She was young, she was scared, and she was a girl limited in her ability and understanding,’ the judge said in sentencing. ‘You hurt her while you were raping her.’

MARRIED MAN’S VICTIM

ONE of the girls was 16 when she met Abdul Sabe, now 40, as she walked home drunk with a friend through Leazes Park, west Newcastle.

The pair were chatted up and Sabe took her number. From this moment she was in the gang’s clutches.

She started taking mephedrone, which she was told to call ‘God’, and was soon having sex in return for the drugs in hotels and private flats.

The first time she took the drug she said ‘it made me feel scared, it wasn’t nice’, but she soon became addicted.

She attended sessions for more than a year, her life ‘spinning out of control’, but despite continual abuse and a series of rapes she did not leave.

She moved in with Habibur Rahim, known as ‘Sham’, but later became victim of a rape in which Rahim, who was married with children, moved from girl to girl.

The girl said: ‘I was on the sofa in the bedroom. I took drugs and I lay on the sofa. He raped me.

‘He got in the bed next to the other girl and he was raping her. She was moaning in her sleep and her jeans were open. I shouted because she was asleep, she didn’t know what was going on.’
