FBI swoops on home of Trump campaign boss

FBI investigators raided the home of Donald Trump’s former campaign manager as they hunt for evidence that his team colluded with Russia to get him elected, it emerged yesterday.

Agents carried out the pre-dawn operation at the property owned by Paul Manafort to seize tax and banking records. Officials did not disclose which of Mr Manafort’s homes they searched – he has properties in Virginia, Florida, New York city and the Hamptons.

They are looking into his work for the Ukrainian government for which he was reportedly paid millions of dollars.

The raid on July 26 was ordered by special counsel Robert Mueller and it turns the screw on Mr Trump and his associates who have all strongly denied working with the Russians.

Mr Manafort has been turning over documents to Congress but the use of a search warrant suggests that Mr Mueller’s team, which includes experts in white collar crime, may believe he is not giving them everything.
