IT’S WATER TORTURE FOR MANY, BUT MO MAKES THE FINAL

- RIATH AL-SAMARRAI

DOWN came the rain but none of it landed on Sir Mo Farah’s parade as he jogged into the final of the 5,000metres last night. The world’s most dominant distance runner faced some of the same barging that he dealt with in his 10,000m win, but there was none of the drama. He finished second in his heat in 13min 30.18sec, behind Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia yet comfortably inside the top five without busting a gut. The 34-year-old said: ‘It was cold and miserable out there. But it’s job done. ‘It’s been five days of just chilling out and trying to recover. The 10k did take it out of me. I was a little bit beaten up. I’m OK now and glad I’ve come through. ‘The knee is all right. The body is a bit tired but anything is possible. I have to recover, get in the zone, switch the lights off. The doctors and the team’s been great for me, helping me out.’ Britain’s Andrew Butchart was quicker than Farah in the second heat, which was faster. He went through in seventh, clocking 13:24.78. Shara Proctor’s poor season continued with elimination in the long jump. Lorraine Ugen, who took bronze in the World Indoors, made the final with a leap of 6.63m.
