Prison warder jailed after she bombarded young offender with risque text messages

- By Andy Dolan

A PRISON officer who swapped more than 850 texts and indulged in phone sex with an inmate was put behind bars herself last night.

Chelsea Blackwell, 27, wrote love letters to Emmanuel CallenderScott and used two mobile phones to bombard him with suggestive messages and calls.

She was jailed for eight months after a court was told she had convinced herself she and CallenderScott would be together when he was freed from the youth offenders’ institute in Aylesbury Bucking- hamshire. Richard Mandel, prosecuting, said Blackwell spent up to two hours at a stretch on the phone to Callender-Scott, who was 21 at the time of the offences last summer. Some of the calls were sexual in their nature, the court heard.

He said Blackwell registered a conflict of interest over the relationship and was moved off Callender-Scott’s wing. She continued to contact the violent criminal however. Mr Mandel said letters from Blackwell and a mobile phone were found in a search of CallenderScott’s cell last July. That sparked an investigation into the warder that led to the discovery of her mobile phones. ‘Some of the texts make it really clear that she was infatuated with this prisoner,’ said Mr Mandel.

Blackwell, of Bootle, Merseyside, initially denied misconduct in public office but pleaded guilty last month, four days ahead of her trial.

Callender-Scott was jailed for seven years in 2010 for stabbing two strangers in London.
