Witty Parker pen portrait

- PATRICK MARMION

THE wit and occasional wisdom of New York writer and socialite Dorothy Parker is brought to pleasing life by American actress Margot Avery.

In Annie Lux’s script, Parker is talking to an imaginary young editor, who is helping plan a compendium of her writing.

The quotes come quick and arch, and there are many gems to choose from, but Parker’s claim that if you want to know what God thinks of money, you should look at the people he gave it to, takes some beating.

Lee Costello’s shoestring production lacks Parker’s polish; but this is still a tasty slice of literary history, served with a keen cocktail of aphorisms.
