THE BBC PROMS 2017 (RADIO 3, 7.30PM) continue with John Wilson (pictured) conducting his orchestra in a semi-staged performanc­e of Rodgers and Hammerstei­n’s big-hearted musical Oklahoma!. One great tune follows another in a concert that will have you singing along and clicking your boot heels, full of the joys of the wide-open prairie.

AT THE beginning of 1937, the genius composer George Gershwin was tormented by terrible headaches and the smell of burning rubber. It was thought that the hardworkin­g Gershwin was suffering from a breakdown, but in fact, he had a fatal brain tumour and died in the summer of that year. He left us a treasury of great music, some of which — including Fascinatin­g Rhythm, I Got Rhythm and Nice Work If You Can Get It — is featured in this week’s

LAUREN MARKS and a friend gave a full-on karaoke performanc­e of Total Eclipse Of The Heart in a noisy Edinburgh bar. The next thing that Lauren knew, she was in hospital, surrounded by the people she loved.
