DERBYSHIRE County Cricket Club have been fined £1500 by the ECB for fielding two ineligible players. Unregistered academy batsman Calum Brodrick, 19, played in the T20 Blast victory against Worcestershire on July 19 and left-arm spinner James Sykes, 25, took part in a second XI fixture against Lancashire last month while he was still registered with Leicestershire. The commission accepted ‘administrative oversights’ were to blame and Derbyshire apologised for the errors.

BRITAIN’S Nathan Cleverly will defend his WBA light-heavyweight title against Badou Jack on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather’s fight with Conor McGregor in Las Vegas on August 26. His first defence of the title has been under negotiation for a long time but now he has the chance to succeed against an opponent George Groves and James DeGale could not beat. Swede Jack, 33, has 12 KOs in 21 wins but Cleverly, 30, said: ‘I’m ready to be let off the leash.’
