Rowdy road is a post no-go zone

-

AN unruly street has gone two months without having its mail delivered – after postmen were attacked by the residents.

Posties demanded police escorts for their rounds in the street in south-east Wales after being pelted with missiles by yobs in a block of flats.

It led the Royal Mail to blacklist the 80 homes in Holly Road in Risca, near Newport, due to safety concerns.

The ban means residents must travel five miles to pick up their post from their nearest sorting office.

One resident, 71-year-old Chester Chaffey, said: ‘I’ve been without post for nearly two months. It’s outrageous.’

A Royal Mail spokesman said: ‘Our staff have been threatened and intimidated, including having items regularly thrown at them ... We are still liaising with the council and looking at all options to enable us to resume deliveries to residents as soon as it is safe for our postmen and women to do so.’
