THE BIG FAMILY COOKING SHOWDOWN, 8PM, BBC2

AS CHANNEL 4 prepares to launch its take on Great British Bake Off next month, this cheery new series lays down the gauntlet and gets a head start in the battle of the cookery shows. Hosted by Nadiya Hussain and Zoe Ball, its aim is to find the UK’s best ‘foodie family’. Over 12 episodes, 16 families will tackle a series of culinary challenges, overseen by judging duo Giorgio Locatelli and Rosemary Shrager (pictured with Hussain and Ball). Tonight, the first of three rounds sees two teams tasked with cooking a meal for four, with a budget of just £10.
