Aldi threat to start deliveries
ALDI is to trial grocery deliveries in the US.
It is a move that could put Britain’s big four supermarkets under even more pressure if the German discounter decided to introduce a similar scheme in this country.
A spokesman for the UK division said yesterday, however, that there were no immediate plans to introduce a similar trial.
But such a move could make life more difficult for British competitors, especially the so-called big four, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda.
Aldi – which only delivers homeware products in the UK – has partnered with Instacart in the US to deliver in three cities from the end of this month.
