Has Baroness Brady grown too grand for Birmingham?

- EDITED BY RICHARD EDEN

WHEN The Apprentice star Karren Brady was elevated to the peerage by David Cameron, she was accused of snubbing Birmingham, where she made her name, by choosing a swanky London district for her title.

Is Baroness Brady of Knightsbridge, as she is known, now cutting her ties with the West Midlands altogether?

I ask only because her 19-year-old son, Paolo, has posted a message online suggesting the family are selling their sprawling, five-bedroom home near Solihull, above.

Paolo, who is due to start university in the capital, said: ‘Seems crazy that in one month’s time I’ll be moving to London with no home in the Midlands to come back to.’

He later deleted the comment and Lady Brady, 48, inset, refuses to discuss the family’s plans, but they would mark a turning point in her life. She moved to the Midlands aged 23 after spotting an advert in the Financial Times for the sale of Birmingham City Football Club.

She encouraged her boss, the publisher David Sullivan, to buy it and put her in charge.

As managing director, she encountered plenty of sexism. The first time she boarded the team bus, a player said: ‘I can see your t*** from here.’

Brady replied: ‘When I sell you to Crewe, you won’t be able to see them from there, will you?’ He was duly sold. She married the Birmingham player Paul Peschisolido and they lived in Solihull with their son and daughter, Sophia, 21, who now lives in London.

Lady Brady, inset, who owns a flat in Knightsbridge (home of Harrods), now works in the capital as vicechairman of West Ham United. She was recently named the new chairwoman of the company behind Sir Philip Green’s retail empire.

As I disclosed last week, her daughter has begun modelling for Topshop, which is owned by billionaire Green’s wife, Tina.

There could be another reason for Brady seeking a quick sale: a 750-property housing development is earmarked for fields nearby.
