Light bulb moment

-

HEALTH and safety regulations are, indeed, the death knell for common sense (Mail).

I have been waiting for two months to have a bulb changed in a street lamp. When I saw council workmen in the road a couple of weeks ago, they said they can’t change the bulb until tree cutters trim the branches — and they are not allowed to go up more than three steps of a ladder.

L. prinCe, London nW1. I ENJOYED the photos of the Scouts’ cheerful disregard for health and safety in days gone by (Mail).

As a member of the 3rd Altrincham troop, we built a toggle tower — a rickety frame of poles and ropes — as part of a competition between local Scout groups. We won and were each presented with a multi- bladed penknife. Just the thing to give to a group of 11 and 12-year-old boys.
