Natural not always best

MY SON was born under extremely difficult circumstan­ces suffering from breathing and heart issues. The umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck and, after 13 hours of labour, a Caesarean was performed.

I was distressed the next day when a nurse apologised: ‘I’m so sorry you couldn’t have a natural birth.’

If I hadn’t had the Caesarean, my son would have been brain damaged or dead.
