Follow-up

FURTHER to letters about the Goodge Street deep tunnels transit camp, I spent two nights there on December 8 and 9, 1954. It was well-equipped with bunks, a diner-style canteen and loos. My first night was spent on fire picket. After my second night, we were given tickets for our flight to Egypt. Each of us was also given a book we could keep after leaving the aircraft. Mine was The Lights Are Low by Jack Aistrop — and I still have that novel all these years later.
