TIGERS can kill prey far bigger than themselves. Their jaws are directly connected to the top of their skulls and only move up and down, making their grip and bite very powerful. Once caught in a tiger’s jaw, quarry has little chance of escape. In the last of his week-long series BONE STORIES (RADIO 4 (FM, 1.45PM), the evolutionary biologist Ben Garrod looks at the tiger and sees how its ability to kill and eat humans has affected our evolution.
