RETIREMENT BOOST
PAVING and landscape products firm Marshalls is cashing in on wealthy retirees spending pensions on driveways.
The company’s domestic sales grew 17pc despite the market overall being flat.
It said: ‘The average individual cash withdrawal from pension funds is around £9,000, the average cost of an installed driveway or patio is between £5,000 and £6,000 and this remains a popular use of pen- sions release funds.’ The Yorkshire-based FTSE 250 company makes paving slabs, bollards, kerbs, benches and other street furniture.
It has refurbished Trafalgar Square and is working on other big projects. Chief executive Martyn Coffey said it was getting more enquiries about bollards and kerbs from authorities following recent terrorist attacks where pedestrians were hit by cars.
