Cas clinch their first League Leader’s shield

- GEORGE CLARKE

CASTLEFORD sealed their first ever Super League League Leader’s shield against local rivals Wakefield last night. Despite the scene being set for the Tigers to romp to victory in front of a home crowd, Wakefield had other ideas and took the lead inside the opening two minutes thanks to a Liam Finn penalty. Castleford hit back almost instantly through Zak Hardaker, Mike McMeeken and Jake Webster to take an 18-10 lead at half-time. They continued in the same vein after the break as Super League’s top scorer Greg Eden crossed and Webster added three more to his tally, before Luke Gale slotted a drop goal.
