CITY SET TO UP BID TO £25M FOR EVANS
WEST BROMWICH are braced for a bid of up to £25million from Manchester City for centre back Jonny Evans. City’s £18m bid was rejected, with Albion manager Tony Pulis is anxious to keep Evans and strengthen his defence by signing Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer for £15m. Evans missed the opening win over Bournemouth with a hamstring injury and is set to be ruled out of tomorrow’s trip to Burnley. Pulis said: ‘Jonny came to the ground and told me on Saturday it was sore, so we take his word for it.’ TOTTENHAM defender Toby Alderweireld’s talks over a new contract have stalled, with no agreement in sight. Alderweireld, 28, has two years left on his £50,000 a week deal and wants parity with the club’s top earners on £110,000 a week. The impasse raises further questions over the club’s rigid pay structure. TOTTENHAM striker Harry Kane and England Women’s Euro heroes Lucy Bronze and Jodie Taylor are the only British players shortlisted for October’s Best FIFA Football Awards. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the favourites for the men’s award. WATFORD are poised to sign Benfica winger Andre Carrillo on loan. BIRMINGHAM have offered Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing a twoyear deal. SWANSEA are discussing a £25m move for West Brom’s Nacer Chadli and want Hull’s Sam Clucas. BAYERN MUNICH defender Mats Hummels has joined Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata in donating one per cent of his salary to charity. Mata told Sportsmail this month he hoped players, clubs and institutions would follow his example.
