WHAT DOES HE NEED?

He may need to add some guile to his persistent drive. But I like his endless running and determination to get in to the opponent’s box. When play is on the opposite flank he has the instinct to take a chance by making strides in to this area. This shows bravery to get among bodies. It has taken him some time to emerge but the promise was always there. In time he will play in just one position — maybe right of a midfield three. Right-footed and a local boy, and his two goals so far this season have helped give Sunderland a pleasant start.
