CONTROL CLIMBERS
GLANCING up at my house last week, I was shocked to see that climbers had crept into the gutters. Frequent wet spells this summer have resulted in extensive growth. As well as blocking gutters, climbers such as Virginia creeper, honeysuckles and rambler roses can also grow surprisingly long shoots which creep under the roofing. To curb this, sever all stems at least 50cm below eaves. Gently tug shoots from under tiles but be careful not to dislodge them. And always remember the importance of ladder safety.
