I SWEAR BY A PINKY RING
LUCY BALLARD, 23, is a marketing executive and lives with her fiance in Bournemouth, Dorset.
I’VE had complaints about my snoring from boyfriends since I was 18, but didn’t take it seriously until two years ago when my fiance and I moved in together and it bothered him every night.
It’s odd that I snore as I’m young, fit and not overweight (I’m 5ft 10in tall and weigh 12st 8lb). However, I do sleep on my back and also have large tonsils — linked to snoring as they obstruct the airways.
I could have had surgery to reduce them but decided this was silly given that they didn’t cause me any real problems and I wasn’t ill.
Then a friend recom- mended the Good Night Anti-Snoring Ring, which apparently presses on certain ‘acupressure’ points on your finger that help regulate breathing.
I wore it on my left little finger for a year and a half. I doubted it at first, but my fiance said he noticed a difference after a week and now says my snoring is vastly reduced.
EXPERT VERDICT: Dr Kirstie Anderson, a consultant neurologist and sleep specialist at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals, says it is unclear exactly how pressure points would open up the airways. ‘This is not a scientifically valid method — and there is concern among neurologists that patients dismiss snoring when it can be a sign of more severe problems, such as sleep apnoea.’
