Security beefed up for Bank Holiday weekend
POLICE are expected to beef up security for the Bank Holiday weekend as towns install security barriers amid terror fears.
Concrete bollards have been put in place at Bicester Village, a designer shopping area in Oxfordshire popular with families and foreign tourists, to defend against a Barcelona-style van atrocity.
The 10,000kg blocks have painted with bright designs so they are not an eyesore. Bollards have also been installed elsewhere across the country in recent months, including on Westminster Bridge, where fanatic Khalid Masood mowed down pedestrians using a 4x4. Security expert Will Geddes said: ‘Sadly, terrorism is the new normal and any open place where large crowds of people gather – like a shopping centre – is now potentially vulnerable. ‘It is far better to be ... prepared for such instances. Installing this type of system is a very effective way of preventing an attack.’
