Holliday’s tweet way to close the pay gap

-

APPLE-CHEEKED actress Holliday Grainger, who stars in the forthcoming BBC crime drama, The Cuckoo’s Calling, adapted from J.K. Rowling’s novel, claims social media could be key to tackling the gender pay gap.

‘In America, actors get jobs because they’ve got loads of Twitter followers,’ she says. ‘It’s like on an audition it’s not: “What film were you in?” It’s like: “How many Twitter followers do you have?” That’s what sells. Twitter could very well become the way that women get paid more — if they have a bigger online following then they’ll have more leverage to negotiate a higher salary.’

Luckily, the 29- year- old Mancunian, who does not use social media, learned she was paid the same as her male co-star Tom Burke in The Cuckoo’s Calling after his contract was sent to her in error.
