Q THE SKIN on my face is looking dull and no matter what creams I use, nothing seems to help. I have heard a face peel is a good way to refresh the skin and smooth wrinkles, but there are too many to choose from. Where do I start? A I would thoroughly research a medical cosmetic clinic near you that offers peels as well as other technologies for skin improvement. There are many options out there to improve lacklustre skin and they should then advise the best one for you.

Chemical peels can help to illuminate dull complexions and refresh the skin’s quality, but different peels differ in how deeply they penetrate the skin. Choosing the right one depends on what you want to achieve.

If the goal is to exfoliate, you need a more superficial one such as the obagi Radiance Peel, with little or no downtime. A series of four to six peels provides the best results.

If the objective is to combat wrinkles in deeper layers of the skin then a full strength peel — such as the obagi Blue Peel — is required. It’s also excellent at treating pigmentation problems such as melasma and age spots, but should only be administered by a trained practitioner who can deal with any possible outcomes.
