- BELGIUM’S Luca Brecel staged a comeback to beat Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarterfin­als of snooker’s Evergrande China Championsh­ip. O’Sullivan looked on course for victory in Guangzhou when 4-1 up, but back-toback centuries by Brecel reduced his deficit. B

GRIGOR Dimitrov defeated unpredicta­ble Australian Nick Kyrgios 6-3, 7-5 to win the Cincinnati Open last night. Kyrgios had beaten new world No 1 Rafa Nadal in the quarter-final but could not cope with the Bulgarian. Jamie Murray and his Brazilian partner Bruno Soares lost the men’s doubles final 7-6, 6-4 to French pair Nicolas Mahut and Pierre Herbert.

BRITISH heavyweigh­t boxer Dillian Whyte stopped Malcolm Tann in three rounds in his first bout since beating Dereck Chisora last year. He dropped Tann four times, and boosted hopes of a world title fight with Deontay Wilder. American Terence Crawford became the undisputed junior welterweig­ht champion of the world on the same bill.
