GRIGOR Dimitrov defeated unpredictable Australian Nick Kyrgios 6-3, 7-5 to win the Cincinnati Open last night. Kyrgios had beaten new world No 1 Rafa Nadal in the quarter-final but could not cope with the Bulgarian. Jamie Murray and his Brazilian partner Bruno Soares lost the men’s doubles final 7-6, 6-4 to French pair Nicolas Mahut and Pierre Herbert.
BRITISH heavyweight boxer Dillian Whyte stopped Malcolm Tann in three rounds in his first bout since beating Dereck Chisora last year. He dropped Tann four times, and boosted hopes of a world title fight with Deontay Wilder. American Terence Crawford became the undisputed junior welterweight champion of the world on the same bill.
