I grew up as a Gooner... then signed for Spurs!

- Bad by Michael Jackson, on CD. I loved him when I was a kid. In the Charlton dressing room, Jason Pearce is the DJ now. I don’t get involved with it — it’s not to my taste. I leave them to it! JAMES RESTALL

FIRST FOOTBALL TBALL MEMORY

Liverpool v Arsenal in ’89 when Mickey Thomas scored the winner in the last minute. I was a Gooner growing up and used to go to highbury most weeks with my dad until I became an apprentice at Tottenham — then I had to keep it quiet!

BEST PLAYER I’VE PLAYED WITH

robbie Keane when I was at Spurs. he was the talisman. If we needed a goal, he would get it. I also played with Teddy Sheringham at Colchester. he wasn’t at his peak by then but he was still a great player.

TOUGHEST OPPONENT

Cristiano ronaldo, when Spurs played Manchester United in 2004. he wasn’t always directly up against me but when he did come over to my side he was a bit of a handful! I can’t remember being blown away by him that day but in hindsight, having seen what he’s gone on to do, you think he was the toughest opponent.

FAVOURITE FOOTBALLING MOMENT

Captaining Charlton to win League One. Getting to lift the trophy is probably my best moment. Making my Premier League debut for Tottenham is right up there but that seems like a bit of a blur now!

SPORTING HERO

I love roger Federer. For me, he’s the greatest ever sportsman — especially given what he’s done recently. I’m a similar age and knowing how I feel in my game at my age and knowing he’s still the best in his game is mind-blowing.

TOUGHEST AWAY GROUND

Derby, for some reason. I can remember getting beat by five one year. We’ve maybe nicked a draw here or there but whenever I’ve played against them I don’t think I’ve had a positive result.

THE FIRST ALBUM I BOUGHT KARAOKE SONG

Parklife by Blur. You can pretty much talk the verses and everyone helps you out with the chorus. I do a good Phil Daniels — being a London boy I can put on a bit of a Cockney twang!

BEST-DRESSED TEAM-MATE

It’s me, there’s no doubting that! My team-mates are all a bit younger and are all tracksuits and things like that. I like to go a little bit smarter.

DREAM DINNER-PARTY GUESTS

Muhammad Ali, Bruce Springsteen and Irish comedian Al Foran, who does the football impressions. If the conversation died out, you’d get Al to do a few impressions!

IF I WASN’T A FOOTBALLER

I’d want to watch and report on football. I reckon I would have gone to university and tried to get into sports journalism.
